President's Letter

President’s Note

We begin the New Year in the Symphony League by looking forward to many exciting upcoming events. Our first event is the League’s largest annual fundraiser with proceeds directly benefiting the Symphony of Southeast Texas. The Symphony Ball “An Evening of Southern Elegance” will be held on January 28, 2017. Ball Chairman Alison Low and her committee have been hard at work to make this event a night for everyone to remember. Cocktail hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the presentation of our lovely Belles and handsome Junior Escorts at 7:30 p.m. A huge thank you to Alison and her committee, as well as Belle Chairman Shelley Duke, and Jr. Escort Chair Tressa Clarke for all their dedication and work for this event. To make your reservations to attend the ball or to make a contribution, please contact Mellie Bevilacqua at 409-363-4120.

String Competition Chair Mandy Oliverio, is working hard to finalize plans for the next String Competition on Saturday, March 25th at Lamar University. Mark your calendars to spend your Saturday volunteering while the SLB continues to encourage youth in our community to pursue their musical endeavors. Young string musicians will be showcasing their talents while gaining performance experience.

Finally, don’t miss the three remaining opportunities to hear the Symphony of Southeast Texas in concert: February 18th- “The Best of Byrd” with our very own Tracy Byrd, March 11th - “On the Beautiful Blue Danube” Classics Series III; and April 1st - “Symphonie Fantastique” Classics Series IV. Enjoy these exciting concerts and take pride in knowing that your hard work helps make it possible for the Symphony to stay alive in Southeast Texas. Volunteers are needed at each concert to take tickets at the door and usher patrons to their seats. Contact Kelly Henry to sign up to help at the concert of your choice.

I am very thankful to our members for your continued dedication and support of our League! Have a wonderful New Year!
