2006-2007 SYMPHONY OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS SEASON The 2006-2007 Symphony of Southeast Texas concert season is upon us, and it promises to pack quite a punch. The season will open with "Shaken Not Stirred, the Music of James Bond," this season's Symphony Pops Concert, at the Jefferson Theatre, preceded by a Martini Mixer pre-concert party at the Hotel Beaumont on October 7, 2006. The main Master Series season features many orchestral favorites including Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto, and an all-Brahms concert featuring the return of popular violinist Chee-Yun. Master Series Concerts are November 18, 2006, January 20, 2007, February 24, 2007, and April 14, 2007. All concerts are at 7:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Theatre. Tickets are available at the Symphony office, or by calling (409) 892-2257.
It was announced in July that Symphony Music Director and Conductor, Christopher Zimmerman, will resign his position effective June 2007. In a letter to the board Zimmerman said "I have enjoyed my relationship with the orchestra for the last several years. I had set out to improve the quality of the orchestra and broaden its repertoire in order to further enhance the satisfaction of the players and listeners alike and to enrich the cultural life of the community. I believe that this has been achieved and that the Southeast Texas community is more aware of this special cultural resource it has in its midst, as exhibited by the beginnings of consistent audience growth. The time has come for me to move on to new challenges. I wish the orchestra all the best for the future and good luck in the search for my replacement." The Board of Directors has begun a national search to replace Maestro Zimmerman. The finalists from the search will each conduct one concert in 2007-2008 Concert Season.
