JANUARY 2005

PRESIDENT'S NOTES

2005!!! Wow, the New Year is here, and it seems like 2004 passed in a flash. I hope each and every one of you had a wonderful Christmas and a safe and festive New Year celebration.

As we enter a new year, our Symphony League “year” is at its midpoint. Over the past months our energetic and talented volunteers have hosted a membership tea, fed orchestras, celebrated a memorable Debutante Season with a lovely group of young women, completed and distributed our annual yearbook, made phone calls and assisted our Symphony office staff on behalf of the Symphony, and in countless other ways helped to promote the Symphony of Southeast Texas.

AND … we’re not done yet! By the time you read this, the annual Youth Concerts will have been held. Once again we appreciate Canda Kessler for her tireless efforts to secure volunteers to help with the concerts.

Final plans for the 2005 Symphony Ball, An Arabian Night, are being made with the encouragement and leadership of the amazing Ann Clary Old, Ball Chairman. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to make your reservations for the Ball, which will be held on February 5, 2005. The Symphony Ball is the major fundraising activity of the Symphony League, and this year’s event is guaranteed to be a night to remember. The Examiner named the 2004 Symphony Ball, Le Cirque, the number one party of 2004, and the 2005 Ball is sure to be party of the year for 2005.

Chelsea Brandimarte, chairman, and Kara Wied, co-chairman, are diligently making plans for and organizing our annual Youth String Competition, which will be held on March 5 at Lamar University. The String Competition is one of the most important activities of the Symphony League, as it directly provides encouragement and support to our community’s young string musicians.

A special word of thanks goes to Priscilla Craft, our Newsletter Chairman, for her hard work in providing timely and comprehensive newsletters to our membership.

And don’t forget our wonderful Symphony of Southeast Texas. The Holiday Concert was a great success and the Pops Concert, Beatlemania, on January 29 will be a night of great musical fun and adventure.

Consistent with the Symphony’s theme, “We’re Hot!” the League Membership continues to be on fire with enthusiasm and energy. Please continue your support, get involved with our activities, buy season tickets, and have a Happy and Prosperous 2005!

Barbara Brookner - President, Symphony League of Beaumont
