PRESIDENT'S NOTES
I cannot believe this is my “farewell” letter as President of the Symphony League of Beaumont. The collective efforts of our league volunteers and the Symphony of Southeast Texas certainly validate the theme, “Heart and Soul”! I am grateful for the opportunity to make new friends; happy to have led such a committed group of people; thankful to have been blessed with a board of great quality; and content that we all did our very best.
In each newsletter, I have expressed thanks
to various board members as their projects came to completion. With
that in mind, thanks to Marie Keramati,
who provided the beautiful displays at Hibernia Bank. She will be
greatly missed as she makes her new home in Houston. Thanks also
to Kim Perkins, who did an outstanding
job of coordinating our beautiful Symphony Belles, during their
events as well as throughout their presentation evening at our Symphony
Ball. Our stunning Neches River Festival Princesses will represent
us well, thanks to the tireless efforts of Allison Golias.
Thanks to Linda Ireland, who serves as
our new Advocacy expert, and has been a wealth of knowledge and
experience as well. Thanks also to Melissa Cornwell,
as she blazed a new trail in submitting our newsletters electronically
and in print. My heartfelt appreciation goes to my Executive
Board: Barbara Brookner, Carol Smith, Mary Ann Smith, Cathie Ellis,
Courtney Horton, Kay Timaeus, Ruthie Williams, Karen McCormick,
Frances Bethea, Becky Holland, Cindy Gibbs, Betty Channing, and
Jan Lamb. Thank you all for being a sounding board,
great friends, and wise counsel in numerous decisions. And last,
but certainly not least, I offer my love and thanks to my mother,
Virginia Hurley, who served as my “assistant”
behind the scenes.
I also want to thank Galen Wixson,
Yvonne Sumner, and Janet Hoffpauir
who keep open lines of communication between our Symphony League
and the Symphony of Southeast Texas.
Finally, thank you, the Symphony League of Beaumont,
for allowing me to be your leader. Your hard work, support, encouragement,
and willingness to say “yes” have meant a great deal. I’m proud
to be a part of the arts community of Southeast Texas!
