UPCOMING EVENTS

Dear Symphony League Friends:

Congratulations on another incredible year of events! I have observed the League with awe as you have once again put together the Debutante Ball, the Symphony Ball, the String Competition, and so many other activities. Most important to me, you make managing the Symphony easier by transporting and feeding musicians, raising money and awareness, and giving the Symphony a wonderful public face in the community.

At this writing, we are preparing for our final concert of the year that will feature not only our wonderful Symphony Chorus, but also the world-class violinist Chee-Yun. This concert will take place on Saturday (yes, Saturday!), April 17th, at the Julie Rogers Theater. I hope that you will take a few hours and enjoy the program of Borodin, Tchaikovsky, and Debussy.

This year, the Board of Directors has taken a long, hard look at the Symphony in an effort to develop a new five-year strategic plan. That effort is now nearing completion, and we will present the plan at our Annual Meeting on Monday, May 10, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the John Gray Library at Lamar University. Please join us as we also recap our year, recognize our outgoing board members, and welcome new board and Executive Committee members. We would welcome your attendance. The cost for dinner is $26 per person, and you can make reservations by calling the Symphony office at 892-2257.

We’re looking forward to a very exciting season in 2004-2005! The “big event” next season is a visit by the “Classical Mystery Tour,” a Beatles tribute group. Remember, all concerts next year are at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evenings next season, so please mark your calendars, and buy your season tickets now! The concert dates are:

Master Series 1, October 16, 2004
Master Series 2, November 20, 2004
Pops, with the Classical Mystery Tour, January 22, 2005
Master Series 3, March 5, 2005
Master Series 4, April 23, 2005

Have a safe and wonderful summer!
