2003-2004 SEASON
Symphony Leaguers:
I’m writing to you following a spectacular start
to the season! We had as our guests the Manhattan Rhythm Kings,
along with guest conductor Michael Berkowitz. They were all delightful,
both on and off stage, and we so enjoyed having them here. If you
saw the show on September 18, I’m sure you’ll agree that the whole
evening was great fun.
Thanks to the League for your help during the
concert, and special thanks go to Tammy Trevett for her wonderful
hospitality for our guest artists, and to Susan and Bob Campbell,
whose fearlessness at getting up at 4:00 a.m. to taxi our artists
to and from the airport has my deepest admiration.
We’re now looking forward to October, when we
bring soprano Janine Hawley in from North Carolina (she lives inland
from the coast, thankfully!) to sing the Mahler Ruekertlieder with
the orchestra. Don’t worry if you can’t pronounce it you only
need to hear it! Along with the Beethoven Fidelio Overture and Prokofiev’s
Symphony No. 5, it promises to be a very special night of music.
We have had more good news on the fundraising
front. H-E-B Stores have signed on as a co-sponsor for our October
concert with a $5,000 gift. Thank you, H-E-B!
Until
next time,
Galen Wixson - Executive Director, Symphony of Southeast Texas
