The Symphony League of Beaumont Debutante Season
has been a busy one. So many volunteers have worked to put together
our educational events and social activities over the last several
months.
The Season began with a Party Outback at the
home of Teri and Glen Morgan. Shelley Williams and her committee
put together this spectacular party complete with hot pink boas
for each debutante and lais for the escorts. Cheddars donated the
food and it was unbelievable…shrimp, chicken, & ribs, complete with
veggies and plate-sized cookies. The girls carried home tote bags
that read “You go girl” as a memory of the evening.
The debs brought their escorts to the etiquette
luncheon at Bryan’s 797 on August 24. I had the privilege of teaching
this very attentive crowd. Our thanks need to go to Dana and Wayne
Reaud for underwriting this event.
The girls, their fathers and escorts learned
to dance the waltz on September 7. Bonnie McDaniel and Bonnie Cokinos
again led the dancing with Diane Verde and her committee providing
refreshments and fun for the whole crew. Thank you, Diane.
Carol and Terry Chilton hosted the Pre-Concert
Dinner that was chaired by Paula Townsend and her fantastic committee.
We had dinner under the trees, with a string serenade. The girls
received instruction on Symphony etiquette and then were able to
enjoy what was for many of them, their first Symphony. I had a great
view of the stage and of the girls’ faces. Their delight was evident
and a joy to watch.
Tanya Henderson organized the traditional Ranch
Party at Cathie and Brian Ellis’ home on September 21. Even the
all day rain could not dampen this party that was attended by Debutantes
and their parents, as well as the escorts and their parents. Kudos
to Mike Smith for his generous heart and great cooking!
Carol Smith orchestrated a very elegant Past
President’s Tea at the John & Mary Gray Library on September 28.
The season concluded this past weekend with
the Debutante Ball on October 4 at the transformed Harvest Club.
It was a magical night, master-minded by Chelsea Brandimarte, Ball
Chairman. The presentation was elegant and flawless. The debutantes,
their escorts, families and underwriters danced the night away to
the sounds of Fantasia.
Linda and Brad Brock hosted the Butterfly Brunch
which was chaired by Janelle Templeton and her great committee.
The debutantes and their parents were welcomed into the Brock’s
home by piano music. The brunch was enjoyed beneath a tent on the
front lawn. I was able to talk one last time to the 2003 Debutantes,
reminding them of all the things we have learned together during
the Season. They released their butterflies after whispering wishes
meant for the ears of God. May God grant them all the desires of
their heart.
