TASO AND ASOL
CONFERENCES
Sherry Goth, Linda Ireland and Barbara Brookner
had the pleasure of representing the Symphony League of Beaumont
at the annual state convention of Texas Association of Symphony
Orchestras (TASO). The convention was held from April 24 - 27 and
was hosted by the Women’s Symphony League of Tyler.
We had the opportunity of meeting and getting
to know many creative, committed, and capable women from throughout
the State of Texas and New Mexico. In addition to hearing wonderful
speakers and attending excellent workshops where ideas and successes
of various leagues were shared, we learned much about the necessity
for advocacy for arts and arts related programs.
The highlight of the convention was the Presentation
of Awards of Excellence Dinner where our very own Jan and Bruce
Allred were honored as the 2003 Volunteers of the Year! We are so
very proud and grateful to Jan and Bruce for all that they have
done for our league and our Symphony through the years.
Barbara Brookner attended the 2003 National
Conference of the American Symphony Orchestra League (ASOL), hosted
by the San Francisco Symphony, in San Francisco, CA, June 17 - 21.
The Conference was attended by more than 1,000 leaders of League
member orchestras, business partners and volunteers. Attendees participated
in and attended development seminars, hands-on networking workshops,
roundtable discussions, concerts, and more.
ASOL provides leadership and service to American
orchestras, while communicating to the public the value and importance
of orchestras and the music they perform. ASOL links a national
network of orchestras and volunteer leagues and provides a wealth
of services, information and educational opportunities to its members.
Information on ASOL can be found at www.symphony.org.
