2003-2004 SEASON
Symphony Leaguers:
As I write this, we at the Symphony offices
are busy preparing for our annual Fourth of July extravaganza. With
so much depressing news, it’s very comforting to know that some
things don’t change, and Independence Day is my favorite reminder
of the great place that we call home.
We don’t get much time to rest after the Fourth,
though. Our new season starts in September, and I really think that
this season brings us back to what we do best great music from
the Classical and Romantic periods.
The 2003-2004 season will begin on September
18th with our Pops Concert titled “Harmony on Tap,” a revue of the
music of the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s featuring the multi-talented Manhattan
Rhythm Kings. On October 16th, the orchestra will present the rarely
heard Rueckert Lieder of Gustav Mahler, as well as the Symphony
No. 5 of Sergei Prokofiev. The orchestra will be visited on January
15th by pianist Dickran Atamian, who will perform the much-loved
Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1. On February 12th, cellist Marcio Carneiro
will perform the exhilarating Cello Concerto No. 1 of Dmitri Shostakovich.
And finally, the orchestra completes the season on Saturday, April
17th in a blockbuster concert with violinist Chee-Yun performing
the famous Violin Concerto of Tchaikovsky, along with the powerul
Belshazzar’s Feast of William Walton, featuring the Symphony of
Southeast Texas Chorus.
Thank you, Symphony League of Beaumont, for
all that you do to create a fun and exciting atmosphere for the
Symphony of Southeast Texas. I’m here to help and answer questions,
so never hesitate to call me. I want to also encourage you, if you
haven’t already done so, to mark your calendars and attend our concerts.
We have such great music to share, and we want to make sure that
you are there to enjoy it all!
Best wishes,
Galen Wixson - Executive Director, Symphony League of Beaumont
